Eagles will be ready for Croatia — Rohr

THE Super Eagles are expected to land in Russia today for the FIFA World Cup tournament, and coach Gernot Rohr, has assured that the team will be ready for Croatia, in their group D opener on June 16.
The Eagles had Nigerian football enthusiast worried after losing three matches in a row in warm up  friendlies against Serbia, England and Czech Republic. However, Rohr is optimistic the Super Eagles will raise their game and get a good result. “We will take it one match at a time. I love this group because we know how to rise to the occasion together.
Nigeria will be ready for Croatia,” Rohr said. Based on the world rankings, the Eagles are the least rated team in the group also featuring  Iceland and Argentina “We are okay with the garb of the underdog. But the defeats have done something for us – we have our heads firmly on our shoulders and we are focused. “Together, we have reviewed the matches and learnt so many lessons. We will approach the World Cup matches differently.” The Eagles were billed to leave for Russia this morning from their Aviva Resort camp, Bad Tatzmannsdorf in Austria to resume at their World Cup base camp in Essentuki, Russia.

Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte Bemoans Mistake Which Prevented 'Perfect Game' Against Barcelona


Chelsea manager Antonio Conte rues the single mistake which gifted Barcelona a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge and prevented the "perfect game".Willian had put the Blues 1-0 up just after the hour mark but a horrible pass by Andreas Christensen along his own penalty box allowed Lionel Messi to emphatically finish and make Barca favourites for the Champions League round of 16 return leg at Camp Nou next month.
However, in what was a great spectacle under the lights at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea put in a strong performance against Europe's in form team and will be bitterly disappointed that they didn't get more from Conte's masterplan.
As quoted in his post-match press conference by ​The Daily Express, Conte said: ​“We were very close to the perfect game. One mistake and we know very well when you make a mistake against Barcelona and players like Messi, Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta you pay.
"It is a pity. I am very proud for my players. They followed what we prepared. Tonight we were a bit unlucky. I think when you play this game you must have a plan and respect the characteristics of the opponent.
"Our plan was really good. The effort of the players was great, we are talking about 1-1 and maybe we deserved more.
"I think in the second leg we have to play a game against Barcelona and we know his team is very strong and fantastic. The final result and qualification is open, it will be very difficult but our performance gives confidence to try and do something incredible."
Chelsea travel to the Camp Nou on March 14 in the hope of beating Barcelona in their own back yard for the first time in over a year and a half.

OFFICIAL: Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of PSG winger Lucas Moura for reported £25m.



Lucas Moura has signed a contract with Tottenham Hotspur until the summer of 2023 and will wear the shirt numbr of 27.

The Brazilian underwent a medical on Tuesday after being pictured stepping off the Eurostar from Paris at St Pancras station in London.

Moura is expected to be in the stands at Wembley to watch his new team-mates face Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Moura was deemed surplus to requirements at PSG after failing to start a game all season and appearing just six times off the bench.

However, he did manage an impressive tally of 16 goals and seven assists during the previous campaign.

The arrival of the 25-year-old does not mean that the north London club are likely to end their long-term interest in signing Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha.

Arsenal Hand New Signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Iconic Gunners Shirt Number

​Arsenal have confirmed that new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will wear the number 14 shirt following his club record move from Borussia Dortmund.

Aubameyang had worn the number 17 shirt during his time with Dortmund, which is already occupied by Alex Iwobi at the Emirates Stadium.

He also has ties to the number seven after wearing it for Saint-Etienne and including it in his social media handles, but it was taken by friend Henrikh Mkhitaryan earlier this month.

For Gabon, Aubameyang typically wears number nine. Alexandre Lacazette, the man he replaced as the Gunners' record signing, is the individual who currently has that jersey at Arsenal.

It left the recently vacated number 14 as an obvious choice for the 28-year-old.

Manchester city with a new signing

Manchester City have completed the signing of Athletic Bilbao and former France Under-21 centre-back Aymeric Laporte for a club record fee of €65m (£57m),​ the full value of the player's buyout clause with Athletic Bilbao.
Laporte, who has already been handed the number 14 shirt, has signed a five-and-a-half year contract at the Etihad Stadium that promises to keep him at the club until the summer of 2023.
The fee surpasses the £55m deal that saw City land Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg in 2015, while new Liverpool signing Virgil van Dijk (£75m) is the only defender ever to have moved with a bigger price tag anywhere in the world.
Adding Laporte to Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker and John Stones means that City are responsible for four of the six most expensive defenders of all time. That group are also four of City's five most expensive signings in club history, showing just how much has been invested in defenders at the Etihad over the last 18 months.

"I am very happy to be here. City are a club with a lot of ambition and they are one of the best teams in Europe," Laporte told mancity.com
"I am looking forward to working under Pep Guardiola and trying to help the club to achieve success. It means a lot that the club have shown faith in me and I am excited to get started."
23-year-old Laporte, who is yet to make his senior international debut, was born in the Basque region of southern France and joined Athletic Bilbao's youth ranks at the age of 16. He started to become a first-team regular just two years later and leaves the club after over 220 games.

Man city set to sign Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard

​A report has claimed that Manchester City are set to make a strmunning £150m bid for Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard in the summer transfer window - as the Belgian star continues to stall over signing a new contract.

As reported by the Man City boss Pep Guardiola is determined to land a marquee signing in the summer, after losing out on signing Alexis Sánchez to their fierce lolcxcal rivals Man Utd. 

The report claims that City will look to rival Real Madrid for Hazard's signature in the summer, and could offer the 27-year-old a contract paying an eye-watering £300k-per-week.

Neymar To join Real madrid at the end of the season

​Neymar is reportedly regretting his world-record summer switch to Paris Saint-Germain - and wishes to join Real Madrid at the end of the season.
French news publication L'Equipe (h/t ​Sport) has claimed that the Brazilian superstar and his camp have become disillusioned with life in Paris after Neymar was jeered by the club's fanbase in recent times.
The ex-Barcelona star, who earns a reported £33m-a-season with the Ligue 1 giants, is now eyeing a return to Spain but with his former club's fierce rivals Real according to the same newspaper (h/t ​AS).
Neymar was left shocked by the criticism he received from PSG fans after he wrested a spot kick off club favourite Edinson Cavani in a recent 8-0 romp over Dijon - a penalty his teammate wanted to take in order to break Zlatan Ibrahimovic's club record haul of 156 goals.
The 25-year-old hasn't been seen since, with claims of being injured preventing him from starting against Lyon and Guingamp in France's top flight and the Coupe de France respectively.
Neymar is also believed to be finding French defences 'too raw' and doesn't agree with the leniency of referees compared to those in La Liga, and PSG's hierarchy is said to becoming increasingly concerned that their star attraction may want to leave after just 12 months.

Man Utd & Arsenal Officially Announce Remarkable Swap Deal for Alexis Sanchez & Henrikh Mkhitaryan

 
Manchester United have officially confirmed the deal to sign Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, while Arsenal have also confirmed the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a long-term contract.
United attacker Mkhitaryan has agreed to move to the Emirates as part of the transfer, with the deal being completed in a rare straight swap agreement. 
Sanchez becomes the first player since Robin van Persie to make the move from the Emirates to Old Trafford, and will be handed United's famous number 7 shirt. Reports have been rife over the details of his contract, with some suggesting he has signed a deal ​worth of 14 million for a season
Meanwhile Mkhitaryan, who joined United from Borussia Dortmund a season and a half ago, will join up with another former United forward in Danny Welbeck at the Emirates.
Manchester City had been publicly courting Sanchez for several months, with Pep Guardiola's side widely expected to sign him when his Arsenal contract was set to expire in June 2018. City had agreed personal terms with Sanchez and a large signing on fee as part of their deal, but United then swooped in to try and sign him six months early.
Jose Mourinho's side however sensed an opportunity to beat their city rivals to Sanchez earlier this month, offering a far more handsome financial package than the Premier League leaders were willing to. City walked away from the deal at the end of last week.

Wenger suggests Sanchez Joining Man United For Money

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has claimed they had "no chance" of keeping Alexis Sanchez and suggested the forward is chasing money by joining Manchester United.

"I cannot understand anybody wanting to leave Arsenal. But, in 30 years of doing transfers, you learn a lot about human beings," Wenger said. "As a professional, it was perhaps his last contract at the top level and an important contract. After that, I accept that because we accepted that we would let him go. After that, we analyse the pros and the cons."

"We did what we tried to do and went as far as we could. Even Manchester City moved out of it in the end. That tells you we had no chance to give him a contract."

"We have tried to find the best possible solution and the best possible solution is that we lose a world class player – I don't deny that at all – but we did not lose him without getting somebody after. The future will tell if it was the right decision or not

Report Details the Nature of Real Madrid's Incoming £200m Offer for Spurs Striker Harry Kane

 Tottenham striker Harry Kane is set to become the subject of a monster bid from Real Madrid as the reigning Spanish champions prepare to overhaul their struggling squad.
Los Blancos have been way off the pace this season and currently lie fifth in La Liga, a whopping 19 points behind leaders Barcelona
They'll have the chance to cut that back down to 16 points with victory over Deportivo on Sunday, before Barca take to the field later in the day against Real Betis, but it is seeming like the chance of retaining their title has already gone.
Madrid have struggled particularly in attack this term, with Cristiano Ronaldo having had little influence on the side, Gareth Bale having again battled with injury and Karim Benzema playing poorly.
In recent years the trio have been on fire, but this season they have all looked a world away from where they should be, and the ​Sunday Times believe Spurs talisman Kane could be the prime target for the club to rebuild around
Jonathan Norcroft reports that Real are willing to shell out £200m to sign Kane, which would trump the previous transfer world record set by Paris Saint-Germain when they signed Neymar for £198m last summer.
Tottenham's wage structure is well documented, and the Times make that the focus of their article, highlighting that Daniel Levy hasn't yet opened talks with Kane about the possibility of a new deal. The England striker takes home a relatively 'modest' wage of around £100,000-a-week, which is less than new Chelsea signing Ross Barkley.

Alexis Sanchez says goodbye to Arsenal team-mates and leaves team hotel


ALEXIS SANCHEZ has reportedly said goodbye to his Arsenal team-mates before leaving their team hotel at around 11pm on Friday.

And it appears he has moved a step closer to clinching his Manchester United move after Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s tearful farewell earlier today.

The finer details of the deals – with both players going in opposite directions – are yet to be ironed out.

But the Mirror report that Sanchez received a call and before saying goodbye to team-mates and leaving their hotel.

Sanchez was expected to be named as the first reserve to Arsenal’s 18-man squad for their clash against Crystal Palace.

But he may now have been part of the Gunners’ matchday preparations for the final time.

Pep Guardiola Reveals Why Paying Out for Alexis Sanchez Wouldn't Have Been Right for Man City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that he dropped his interest in Arsenal forward Alexis Sánchez in order to maintain his side's level of stability. The Chilean was hotly-tipped to join the league leaders in the January transfer window, but since the Citizens have cooled their interest
Speaking ahead of his side's Premier League clash against Newcastle United, via ​Sky Sports, Guardiola was questioned over his club's decision to pull the plug on the much-anticipated deal. The former Barcelona manager said:
"Normally we try to be stable with the wages of the players because I think it is good for the team and stability of the club In the past, what the club did, was at that price.
What happened last summer, everything increased amazingly. You have to adapt to that. I think the price in the summertime will be higher than this winter. Sometimes you have to anticipate that. We've spent a lot of money, we can't deny that, but I've never put pressure on a club when they believe it is too much.
"Immediately I accept that decision and move forward to find another solution. The stability of the club is the most important thing. I'm not the guy with the mathematics, with the numbers. What I know now is he is still Arsenal's player, but I think he is going to go to United. So, congratulations for both of them."

Real Madrid Reject Ronaldo's Demands for New Deal as Man Utd Withdraw Interest After Sanchez Signing

​ Real Madrid will refuse to meet forward Cristiano Ronaldo's new contract demands to put him back on par with Lionel Messi's earnings at Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.
The ​Mirror have summarised in their own report that Ronaldo is looking to earn a mammoth £35m-a-year with another new contract at Santiago Bernabeu, but that the European champions have flat-out refused because of the player's decline in form over the last year. 
Ronaldo did win the Ballon d'Or for a fifth time last month, but has struggled to fire Real anywhere near league leaders Barca in the current Spanish league campaign. Going into this weekend's round of games, Real are a massive 19 points behind their rivals - though they do have a game in hand.
The 32-year-old - who turns 33 in a couple of weeks - has only hit four league goals this season, and Real are even struggling to secure themselves a spot in the Champions League qualification places as it stands.
Marca go on to add that Jose Mourinho has "no intention" of signing Ronaldo, who would carry massive financial demands and have limited shelf life at his peak.
The Madrid-based outlet also reports that Mourinho has withdrawn his interest in Gareth Bale because of Sanchez's arrival, Bale's injury history and the potential cost of the deal.

Borussia Dortmund chief Zorc: No 'concrete' Aubameyang offers

Borussia Dortmund left star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of their squad for the second Bundesliga match in a row on Friday, with sporting director Michael Zorc revealing the club are still waiting for a "concrete" transfer offer for the Gabon striker.
Aubameyang, who was dropped from the squad for Dortmund's 0-0 draw with Wolfsburg last Sunday, was again omitted from the side that drew 1-1 at Hertha Berlin.
"It's not a suspension but a sporting decision," Zorc told Eurosport.
Dortmund missed the pace of Aubameyang -- who has been linked with a winter transfer to Premier League side Arsenal -- to create goalscoring opportunities against Hertha's well-organised defense. And Zorc admitted the club are still operating as if the attacker is still part of the team.
"We're still planning with Aubameyang," Zorc said. "There is a way back into the team. Professionalism is part of that and also saying in one or two situations that a mistake was made.
"There is nothing really concrete on the table. There's a lot of rubbish."
Aubameyang was originally dropped for missing a club appointment, with manager Peter Stoger saying he felt the player was "not so focused at the moment."

Sanchez signing can boost Man United and offer him a platform for success

In the most optimistic minds at Old Trafford, Alexis Sanchez will play for Manchester United at Burnley on Saturday. To do so, he'd have to complete his transfer from Arsenal by noon in the UK on Friday -- and the club's fax machine would have to be in working order.

Fans appear almost unanimous that this would be a positive signing. Sanchez is fast, strong, versatile and will boost a squad with some deficiencies. United chased him as long ago as 2011 and were prepared to make him the club's most expensive player. Back then, Barcelona and Manchester City also wanted him; Sanchez's order of preference was Barca, where he ended up, followed by United, then City.

He's finally set to arrive at Old Trafford and the deal is right, not only because the transfer fee is so small for a top-level player or that it prevents City getting one of their transfer targets. It's about the first time United have landed a blow on their cross-town rivals this season, though revision and distortion means the truth will be corrupted; football often does two or more versions of what is real.

Sanchez's reported wages and associated costs are huge and bear no relation to the reality that most people know. If they did, and ticket prices increased by 30 percent, then it would be an issue to fans, but barring Sevilla's Champions League policy, ticket prices have stopped going up even as football's wages have spiralled.

Player wages have long been eye watering. For example, my uncle Charlie, who played 162 times for United, accepted £100 a week to play in Colombia in 1950; he was on £11 a week at Old Trafford. The first person he told was legendary manager Sir Matt Busby, who responded: "Do they want a manager as well?"
